ASK THE NUTRITIONIST

Vegan life style lacking good protein/energy
by Anonymous

Q: Hello, I am looking for a Nutritionist who is knowlegable in the following: I just turned 40, I have a 2 and 3 year old boys, I have a vegan life style and I workout 6 days a week, 45min cardio and 30min of weightlifting. (I have not been consistent on the weight lifting for the past three months) I lack energy. I think I need to change my diet, (keeping the vegan life style) What do you suggest?

A: This is a tough analysis without doing further blood testing to see what you are deficient in. Lack of energy for vegans usually is due to B-Vitamins and not enough protein. So making sure you are getting plenty of protein from tempeh, soy, or seitan sources will be important. A B-Complex vitamin or better yet my favorite energy source try a Pollen Burst.
