ASK THE NUTRITIONIST

be in good shape
by GEORGE

Q: WHAT KING OF DIET DO I have to be on and exercises program to be in good chape and loose 20 pounds. I'm 5'9" AND 200 POUNDS. I WILL like to be in good shape by June.

A: Dear George, First of all, sorry for the delay in answering your question. I would like to make it up to you by giving two sessions on me. Unfortunately the word diet in the English language has a negative meaning. The word diet comes from latin which means "Lifestyle". Creating a healthy lifestyle will promote weight loss. The latest research shows that in weight loss 80% comes from the food we eat and 20% from exercise. The key would be to create a menu that tastes good, promotes health and stimulates our metabolism. A exercise program that would compliment this healthy eating regiment should vary in intensity in order to constantly stimulate our metabolism. Some gyms now have tests that can determine your optimal fat burning workout in order to take out the guess work. In conclusion, there is no perfect "diet" or even exercise regiment. The best results would be achieved by creating a custom health promoting program developed around your personal food preferences and to efficiently workout where the least amount of time is needed to loose about 2.5 pounds a week.
