Thinning Hair?
by Anonymous

Q: I am a woman in my early forties and for the past several years (since my mid-thirties), every time I shower or brush my hair, I see a good amount of hair on the floor! When I look at myself in the mirror, my hair does not appear to be thin, yet the amount of hair I see on the floor does concern me. What are the causes of and treatments for thinning hair?

A: Thinning hair has a variety of reasons - especially in the women in their forties. A majority of my patients are in the forties. This is where hormones start to change, cholesterol and blood pressure tend to go up, and weight gain is also common. Treating nutritional deficiencies is foundation of the good health and sometimes takes some good analyses to get to the root of the problem. Some common hormonal problems that cause thinning of hair can be low thyroid function that is not always seen on blood tests. Low progesterone levels correlate to estrogen dominance, which causes bloating in the abdomen and thinning of hair. Low absorption of minerals and vitamins caused by yeast or heavy metal toxicity can provoke thinning of hair. So you can see how quickly this gets complicated. I recommend meet with me for a complimentary consultation to choose the most appropriate option for you. That was an excellent question and I hope that I gave you some prospective. Best of luck, Robert Karlsson
